Instiki (What Is Instiki) is a wiki clone so pretty and easy to set up, you’ll wonder if it’s really a wiki.

In fact it’s not only a wiki. It supports file uploads, PDF export, RSS feeds, multiple users, multiple wiki sites and password protection. Some people even use Instiki as a CMS - Content Management System because of its ability to export static pages.

Note: As of version 0.11.0, this applies only to the Windows and OSX version with Ruby installed. If you are using any other system, please read more about Installation.

Instiki only relies on Ruby—the sole external dependency (it includes all other dependencies).
Any OS that can run Ruby can run Instiki – that includes Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and most known Unix flavors.
Instiki on BeOS, Amiga OS, OS2, Zeta OS and support for various exotic Platforms is planned. Mostly it already works, if Ruby runs there (download the linux version in this case). Please contact parasew if you want to help out for your OS that is not listed. Please also get in touch if you are able to create an instiki package for your favourite unix or linux distribution.

The current trunk version of instiki has the plugin form-spam-protection included. To stress test this plugin for an upcoming anti-spam edition of instiki i disabled the dnsbl_check on this main wiki and just let the form-spam-protection plugin show its strength. Hope it works out! I apologize for the long downtime of the instiki main site end of december. The main instiki site runs patched on mongrel, which crashed. now this won’t happen again, since there is a cronjob checking if things are going well!—parasew

Spam Activity drastically reduced November 19, 2006
Spam on the current instiki site reduced drastically, after applying the dnsbl_check – a realtime lookup to blacklisted IPs. Still there is some spamming going on. Please post your anti-spamming and spamfixig-ideas to AntiSpam, we will provide patches soon. —parasew

Instiki Site Uses DNS-Blacklist now November 18, 2006
The current Instiki Website uses dnsbl_check a realtime DNS-Blacklist checker Plugin for Rails. Hopefully this reduces the Wikispam. This is just one of the Anti-Spam-Features to be available in instiki 0.12 soon. —parasew

Document fragment linking

This was used to set up the link list at the top of this page. It doesn’t appear to be documented anywhere – including either http://hobix.com/textile/quick.html or http://textism.com/tools/textile/ – and it’s very handy for writers who need to link from one place in a document to another part of the same document.

Footnote creation and linking is a similar idea, but it’s done differently from the method shown here, and isn’t really equivalent.

Here’s how to do it:

Running At Linux Startup

This is one way which enables you to run Instiki at startup in a Debian machine.

After testing your install just put the following line in the file /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh (just before the exit at the end).

ruby /path/to/your/install/instiki.rb --daemon --storage=/path/to/your/storage

substituing the /path/to/your/install with the path to which you installed Instiki.

With this, you should have Instiki running when you boot your computer.
There may be a better way to do this, but this was the easyest which worked for me.

It is best to specify storage location, rather then rely on default—Alexey Verkhovsky

You can also modify your crontab to start instiki at boot, assuming that your cron clone supports such an option. This has an advantage of not requiring root access.

Check ‘man 5 crontab’ to see if your cron daemon supports such a feature and how to set it up. The default cron under Debian Sarge is vixie cron, which supports the ’@reboot’ syntax.

To run instiki at boot using Slackware you can easily add a simple rc.instiki tab, and a call to it in rc.local

rc.instiki should include: #!/bin/sh #Start instiki:
instiki_start() { instiki —daemon —storage /path/to/storage
}

and add
/etc/rc.d/rc.instiki start
to rc.local

chmod rc.instiki to 755 and you’re ready to roll

To run at login time (so you don’t need to be root) you can put the command inside your .bash_login file in your home directory also…

echo "ruby /path/to/your/install/instiki.rb --daemon --storage=/path/to/your/storage" > ~/.bash_login

The docs say “Instiki lowers the barriers of interest for when you might consider using a wiki. It’s so simple to get running that you’ll find yourself using it for anything—taking notes, brainstorming, organizing a gathering.” The other day I was putting together a collection of files concerning an author I was reading/working on. I set up a little directory structure on my server and started making sub-directories for each of the author’s books and yet more sub-directories in each of those to house reviews of those books, store salient quotes from the books, collect relevant links, etc and then other directories where I could take my notes and piece together longer writing, with all this stuff eventually culminating in some essays on the writer. I realized pretty quickly that grep just wasn’t going to cut it and I didn’t want to take time away from collecting information figuring out how I should be collecting that information. Then I remembered the advise in the Instiki README.

It took about 1 minute:

wget the source

unpack it

run instiki.rb

and within 10 minutes everything I had done up until then was copied into the new wiki. Instiki has all the features I need, takes 1 minute to set up and it just works. Writing a Great Research Paper

I do not doubt that you are in keeping some research for my title, whether due or postgraduate level – you will find that writing essays is good, they must get noticed in the academic arena.

You will of course require a commitment, if we look to write an essay, you need to put it as a priority issue in many other parts of the work and social activities – in fact it will be a large part of his life. Students who participate in their research paper and look towards the future, and are often easier to write and compile his book that the time for each day to fill a small part of their research paper.

The fact that a research paper and required to be a little on his own research in the academic field, some students nervous and a little scary. They should overcome these feelings as soon as possible, that is, if you really are. Actual research writing process is seen as a lot of it is completed, how long-sought long-bit dull writes in a dull world. But this is exactly the opposite. You must be focus and determination to play a part not only of academic research and writing, but also be able to develop your arguments and prove (or disprove) your current view / belief of the proposed / selected topic.

A good book begins on the subject in hand, and to do good research and writing, you must be clear what it is that you really want to research and write – it is clear that helps you realize how big your paper may be . If you have not yet settled on the topic for research, you should have at least decided on the field you want to write. Take note of what it is and discuss with their tutors, what is really want to do – there is no doubt that it will be full of ideas and offer you advice issue, identify what you have an interest in research.

If you paid for the topic you want to write, and plan how you want to find out where you are on the way to create your essay as enviable. You should be aware that there are many different research elsewhere in the world who are in a huge range of topics. But certainly I have found that the research for your documents.

You want to prove that their work (or hypothesis) does not lead down the same way as the earlier one – it can make them, and also to monitor similar way, or to repeat their research, but to carry out research, which is the same as before can not afford – To work to be perceived as a genuine individual.

Even as a student, you should be used to review other documents, gather views and represent their own ideas on specific subjects. Therefore, you should be sure that in his book and what does not – find out what will add to the overall impact on your essay.

A good essay writers will deal with treatment and a review of how important it is the final stage. You need to remember that your book should be stable and can keep the attention of your readers. Although it is usually not mentioned, there are other trademarks are the good language, grammar, clarity and tone of your contribution. Therefore, you should ensure that your work is completely adjusted before you have your work printed and ready for submission to the subject. Most embarrassing on-site after your application is, when you look at the research that you have entered, and notice any simple spelling and grammatical errors.
